The character Tauriel was not in the original epic novel The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien in 1937. However, director Peter Jackson, along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, conceived this character based on the idea the trilogy needed a leader of the Mirkwood Elven guard, and a female one at that. Tauriel, played by Evangeline Lilly, made her debut in the second installment, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The film was released in 2013 to exceptional critical and box office success. Tauriel makes her appearance when Bilbo Baggins and the 13 dwarves are travelling through Mirkwood. Led by Tauriel and Legolas, the Wood Elves save the visitors from giant spiders. Tauriel saves Kili twice in the film and forms a romantic bond with him. In addition to her role as Tauriel, Lilly has acted in such critically acclaimed films as The Hurt Locker, Ant-Man and the TV series Lost. Lilly has signed this limited edition (100) 11" x 17" The Hobbit poster in black paint pen. Her signature is deemed authentic by virtue of Upper Deck Authenticated's Five Step Process.
