He broke Gordie Howe's all-time NHL goal scoring record of 801 on Mar. 23 1994 and is the all-time NHL leader in points 2857 goals 894 and assists 1963. In 1999 at age 38 with 61 NHL scoring records in 20 seasons Gretzky retired. Mark Messier began his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers later leading the New York Rangers to the 1994 Stanley Cup championship. Mark Messier is known as one of the games greatest hockey players winning six Stanley Cup Championships and was named captain on two different teams.
